Distinguish the difference between acceleration and deceleration? ASAP?

Acceleration is defined as rate of change of velocity. But, if u want to compare acceleration and decceleration then it will mean that acceleration means (positive) rate of change of velocity i.e (to increase velocity or speed) and decceleration means rate of change of velocity (decreasing) i.e speed or velocity.
