How can the differences between "South" and "North" be felt in America today?

Yes, I am talking about the Civil War. What features actually define "Southern" and "Northern" in America today? I live in Pennsylvania, and so many places all over the state I literally could not distinguish from places in Texas (where I used to live) if I were shown unmarked pictures.
